Spinach Artichoke Monte Cristo

Ingredients: 

  • 4 slices of thick-cut white or brioche bread 
  • 8 slices deli ham 
  • 4 slices Swiss or Gruyère cheese 
  • ½ cup store-bought spinach artichoke dip 
  • 2 large eggs 
  • ¼ cup milk 
  • Salt and pepper to taste 
  • 1 tbsp butter (for grilling) 
  • Powdered sugar, for garnish (optional) 

 

Directions: 

  1. Spread about 2 tablespoons of spinach artichoke dip on one side of each bread slice. 
  2. Layer each sandwich with 1 slice of Swiss or Gruyère cheese, and 4 slices of ham. 
  3. Top with another slice of cheese, then place the second slice of bread on top, spinach artichoke dip side down. 
  4. In a shallow dish, whisk together the eggs, milk, and a pinch of salt and pepper 
  5. Carefully dip each sandwich into the egg mixture, making sure both sides are evenly coated 
  6. Heat butter in a large skillet or griddle over medium heat. 
  7. Place the sandwiches on the skillet and cook for about 3-4 minutes on each side, until the bread is golden brown, and the cheese is melted. 
  8. Dust the sandwiches with a light sprinkle of powdered sugar.
